Medical Clinic Project, Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, for Rohingya Refugees
The project goal was to provide emergency health care services for Rohingya refugees and surrounding host communities with a special concentration on maternal and newborn child health.
Over 50% of the newly arrived Rohingya in Cox’s Bazaar, Bangladesh, were women and girls; 15-20% of whom were pregnant and lactating. Medical and health facilities established for the refugees were previously located far away with inadequate maternal, reproductive, and child healthcare. The goals for this project included:
- Reduce maternal and infant mortality rates;
- Improve services for mothers and their newborns, sexual and reproductive health care; and
- Train local Rohingya on primary preventive healthcare and midwifery
The Unforgotten partnered with Global One who initiated a project focusing on women health needs for the Rohingya Refugees.
- Project Cost: $50,456 USD of which The Unforgotten funded $24,000 and Global One funded $26,456. The Unforgotten also covered half the yearly expenses as well as ambulatory services.
- Number of Beneficiaries: 100 to 150 patients per day (6000+ population served)
- Initial site visit: September 2019.
