When Rohingya refugees first arrived in Bangladesh in August 2017, refugees built makeshift shelters from locally procured bamboo and sheeting.
To protect their shelters from monsoon flooding and landslides, shelters need upgrade kits and monsoon preparation.
Shelter kits include bamboo poles, rope, plastic tarps and tools needed to build safer structures. The monsoon preparation kits help families anchor their homes against the powerful monsoon rains.
Emergency appeal for Rohingya fire victims
Due to a fire in the Rohingya refugee camp on March 22, 2021, hundreds of families were separated, houses were burnt down and children were living without shelter and proper clothing. The Unforgotten Fund started an emergency fundraiser to deliver clothes, tents and help reconstruct shelters for the 50,000+ Rohingya refugees who lost all their belongings and homes to that fire.
Partnering with Global One, The Unforgotten assisted in providing family food packages to 1,984 households affected by this fire hazard. We also supported emergency clothing packages to 223 families and distributed dignity kit packs among 250 families so that women and adolescent girls’ dignity can be ensured. Each dignity kit pack contained important hygiene items i.e. both disposable & reusable sanitary pad, underwear, bathing soap, laundry soap, washing powder, soap box, tooth brush, tooth paste, hair comb, petroleum jelly/lotion, nail clipper, coconut hair oil, shampoo and cotton towel that a woman should need to manage her period in a healthy and hygienic manner.
